Governor Lenku and Conservation Stakeholders Join Forces to Usher in a New Era for Amboseli National Park

In a groundbreaking development for wildlife conservation, Governor Lenku of Kajiado County has spearheaded a momentous meeting with key conservation stakeholders working in the Amboseli Ecosystem. The aim? To ensure a smooth transition period following President William Samoei Ruto’s directive during the Maa Cultural Week at Sekenani Maasai Mara, transferring the management of Amboseli National Park to the County government of Kajiado. The outcome of this gathering promises a brighter future for Amboseli’s pristine landscapes and iconic wildlife.

What made this gathering even more remarkable was the gracious presence of Sylvia Museiya, the Permanent Secretary of the State Department of Wildlife at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Heritage. Her attendance underscored the government’s commitment to working hand in hand with conservationists to preserve Amboseli’s ecological treasures.

Governor Lenku, known for his unwavering dedication to environmental conservation, expressed his enthusiasm for the future partnership, stating, “Tunasonga mbele” His words echoed the sentiments of all present, as they pledged to work together in harmony for the greater good of Amboseli National Park.

At the heart of this historic meeting were representatives from prestigious organizations dedicated to safeguarding the natural wonders of Amboseli. Among those in attendance were the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, the Africa Conservation Centre, Amboseli Ecosystem Trust, the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the Amboseli Conservation Project, and the South Rift Association of Land Owners.

The Amboseli Ecosystem is a jewel in Kenya’s wildlife conservation crown, home to iconic species such as elephants, lions, and giraffes. Its breathtaking landscapes, dominated by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, draw tourists from all corners of the globe.
