In the midst of her first year in office, Women Representative Hon. Leah Sankaire is strategically prioritizing the inclusion of youth in her leadership initiatives. Despite her constitutional mandate primarily focusing on improving social welfare rather than developmental aspects, she is actively embracing her role as mandated by the Kenyan constitution.
Hon. Leah Sankaire, known for her dedication to critical projects within the county, has notably shifted her attention to the youth, introducing the ‘SANKAIRE SUPER CUP.’ This innovative concept, warmly received by the community, reflects the Women Rep’s commitment to fostering youth engagement. She has expressed her intent to make this an annual event, starting at the ward level for gentlemen and expanding to the constituency level for ladies.
During an exclusive interview at Paran, Hon. Sankaire emphasized her commitment not only to sponsor the activities but also to actively participate, engaging with the youth to understand their concerns in a language that resonates with their experiences. This approach aims to establish a meaningful connection between the youth and their government, fostering a platform for addressing their issues through the Women Representative.
Beyond providing a constructive and engaging activity during the holiday season, the SANKAIRE SUPER CUP serves as a proactive measure against challenges like early pregnancies, early marriages, FGM, and substance abuse that often result from youth idleness.
Moreover, the event encourages youth to explore and appreciate their talents, potentially transforming these skills into avenues for success and pride. The Women Representative’s office plans to acknowledge the winning teams with various awards, including a cash prize of 200Ksh, a trophy, jerseys, balls, and gold medals. The second and third runners-up will also receive recognition and support.
